Samuel Smith Farmstead- Christmas Open House and Greenery

 Sunday, November 26

 

 10 am – 3 pm

Come see the house lit by electric candles, and smell our own hanging herbs as we decorate the Samuel Smith Farmstead. Within our barn, we will offer Christmas decorations,  wreaths, swags, topiaries, burlap bags filled with greens, beeswax hand-dipped candle pairs, framed prints of the Samuel Smith Farmstead pen and ink by Steve Marks-Hamilton, note cards, also with pen and ink by Steve Marks-Hamilton, hand-knit mittens and small tree ornaments for a suggested donation.


Fall Open House Day – Sunday, October 22
Butch Foster Band

The event offered cider donuts, apples, and hot mulled cider, as well as demonstrations of an encampment with a colonial cooking demonstration, cider press, corn cracking, candle-making, wool carding and bee-keeping. Butch Foster played music.  Goats were present. Beeswax taper pairs and burlap bags filled with cornstalks were available for a suggested donation.

 
Bike & BBQ Fund Raiser – October 1, 2017

The East Lyme Bike & BBQ to benefit open spaces and historic places invites avid and recreational bike riders alike for a spectacular ride along either a “family friendly” 9-mile historical house tour, 20 mile, 26 mile, 62 mile, 85 mile, or 100 mile course.
The “family friendly” course will take you to 3 historical houses around East Lyme: the Smit
h-Harris House, the Thomas Lee House and the Samuel Smith Farmstead.
Participants are welcome to stop at 
each house for a rest and tour of the property.

 

Jim Stewart Swing Dance Party – July 29, 2017

Swing Dancing with the Arthur Murray dancers was enjoyed by participants. Many brought their picnic supper and enjoyed Swing tunes of 1930’s through 1990’s Neo Swing Revival of the Jimmy Stewart Band.

 

Open Farm Day – July 16, 2017

The East Lyme Agribusiness Subcommittee hosted “Open Farm Day”.  The mission is to help preserve and promote agriculture in East Lyme.

 

 Celebrate East Lyme Day – July 15, 2017

Celebrate East Lyme is coordinated by the Town of East Lyme, its citizens, and the East Lyme Business Community as a way to recognize and promote the many businesses, community groups and artisans who live here, all while enjoying an old-fashioned summer festival by the sea.
